SUMMARY:Mililani Hongwanji Bon Dance
DESCRIPTION:Come visit Pack 564 at the Mililani Hongwanji Bon Dance! This year volunteers from the pack with be manning the gyu don booth. Gyu don is a comforting Japanese dish featuring tender beef simmered in a savory sauce\, served over a bed of fluffy rice. This dish will be expertly prepared by Rev. Kamuro and his wife and is expected to sell out again as it did last year. \nWhile Bon Dance has deep Japanese roots\, in Hawaii\, it has evolved into a quintessential experience that transcends ethnicity. It is a celebration of ‘ohana (family) and community. The significance lies in the gathering: the shared enjoyment of local foods\, the sight of neighbors in colorful yukata\, and the participation of multi-ethnic crowds joining in the festivities. In Hawaii\, Bon Dance represents the successful blending of traditions – a seasonal phenomenon where Japanese heritage provides the rhythm\, but the inclusive\, festive spirit of Hawaii provides the soul. \nAugust 21 & 22\n5:30 PM – 10:00 PM\nMililani Hongwanji Buddist Temple\n95-257 Kaloapau Street\nMililani\, HI \nVisit the event website for more information!\nmililanihongwanji.org/2026-bon-dance
